What is a Crp Blood Test?

A crp blood test measures how much inflammation is in the body. It’s usually ordered by your doctor to help determine what is causing the inflammation. Your doctor can also use this test to monitor your treatment for an infection or a chronic disease that causes inflammation, such as rheumatoid arthritis.

You don’t need to prise de sang crp for this test. A healthcare professional, called a phlebotomist, will draw a small sample of blood from a vein in your arm. They will clean the area around the vein with alcohol, put a rubber tourniquet around your arm and ask you to pump your fist several times to cause the blood vessels to bulge out slightly, then they’ll insert a needle into a vein in your arm to draw a blood sample. The procedure only takes a few minutes. You may feel a sting or pricking sensation when the needle is inserted. It’s normal to have some bleeding at the site after the blood draw. If you have a history of excessive bleeding or bleeding disorders, tell your doctor.

CRP Blood Test: A Vital Marker for Detecting Inflammation and Assessing Disease Risk

Your hs-CRP levels rise and fall depending on the amount of inflammation in your body. High hs-CRP levels can indicate an active infection, certain cancers, inflammatory conditions or some types of heart disease. However, a high hs-CRP level doesn’t mean you have a higher risk of heart disease and your health care provider should take other tests into consideration before making that diagnosis.

A low hs-CRP level can indicate that inflammation is under control or that your treatment for an infection or chronic inflammatory condition is working. However, it doesn’t mean that you don’t have a medical problem that needs to be treated.
