Strategic Spray Foam Insulation

When used in a new home or commercial construction, spray foam insulation forms an air seal to prevent the movement of unwanted energy, thus cutting down heating and cooling costs. It also provides protection from the influx of moisture that can damage other types of insulation. In addition, it blocks rodents from accessing attics and basements, which they would otherwise use as nesting areas.

Strategic Spray Foam Insulation, LLC technicians clean the area to be insulated and remove any existing insulation, if necessary. They then prepare the surface by scrubbing it with a chemical cleaner to ensure that it is clean and free from dust, dirt and mold. They may also vacuum up any debris that could clog the foam’s pores. This helps the spray foam achieve a high R-value, and it allows for the optimum performance of the foam.

Once the spray foam is applied, it expands into tiny pockets and fills cracks and crevices. These pockets prevent the flow of air and vapor, which in turn blocks convective heat transfer. In addition, the small pockets create barriers that block the passage of sound and noise. In fact, the more of these pockets that are inserted in the structure, the better the sound attenuation.

The Benefits of Spray Foam Insulation with Strategic Spray Foam Insulation, LLC

There are two types of spray foam insulation – open-cell and closed-cell. Open-cell foam contains cells that are not completely encapsulated, which makes it softer and more flexable than closed-cell foam. The type of foam chosen depends on the project. Many companies use a hybrid method called “flash and batt,” which mixes spray foam with fiberglass batt insulation. This allows the advantages of spray foam — including its superior air-sealing capabilities and higher R-value — with the lower cost of traditional fiberglass batt insulation.
